Nikolai Nosov is best known outside Russia as the author of the Dunno stories — the bumbling, boastful little man who became one of the Soviet Union's most beloved children's characters — but this coin was issued on the centenary of his birth in 1908. The Bank of Russia's ongoing series honoring Russian literary figures has produced dozens of such issues, making individual pieces from the run relatively easy to source despite their silver composition and low mintages typical of the program.
