Additional information

Galina Kulakova dominated Nordic skiing through the late Soviet period, winning four Olympic gold medals across the 1972 and 1976 Games and becoming one of the most decorated athletes the USSR ever produced. This coin is part of Russia's long-running "Outstanding Personalities of Russia" series, which the Bank of Russia has used since the early 1990s to issue commemorative silver pieces honoring figures from science, culture, and sport.

Kulakova was still alive at time of issue — she was born in 1942 in Udmurtia.
