Belarus introduced a redesigned circulating bimetallic coinage series in 2016 following the redenomination that replaced the old ruble at a rate of 10,000 to 1 — one of the more dramatic monetary resets in post-Soviet history. The 2023 date places this piece among the later production runs of that series, struck well after the political upheaval of 2020, when mass protests following the disputed presidential election triggered sweeping Western sanctions that complicated the National Bank's import relationships for minting materials and equipment.
