Fujairah was one of the smallest and least-populated of the Trucial States, and its coinage program in the late 1960s was frankly aimed at the collector market rather than circulation. This piece — a trial strike for a Nixon commemorative — was produced amid the flurry of politically themed issues that small Gulf sheikhdoms churned out following independence momentum in the region. Trial strikes from this program were struck in limited quantities to test dies and planchet combinations before committing to full runs, most of which were sold directly to European dealers.
Nixon visited no part of what would become the UAE during his presidency.
