| Obverse description | Central field features the Imperial chrysanthemum mon — a stylized sixteen-petalled flower rendered in high relief — set within a raised inner border. Surrounding the central device, Japanese characters arranged radially in the field read 'Great Japan, Year 18 of Meiji,' flanked by raised dot separators at the left and right. The Latin legend '2 RIN' appears in the lower portion of the field, between two raised dot stops, combining both Japanese and Latin scripts on a single face. The whole is contained within a plain raised rim. |

| Reverse description | The reverse presents a bold, unadorned design consisting solely of two large Japanese kanji characters centrally positioned in the field: '二' (two) in the upper half and '厘' (rin) in the lower half, denoting the denomination. The characters are rendered in a formal, square-brushstroke style with strong incised outlines against a flat ground. The composition is deliberately minimal, relying on the monumental scale of the denomination characters to fill the flan. A plain raised rim encircles the entire design. |
