Beschrijving voorzijde Full-length crowned figure of King Karl IX facing left, depicted in armour and royal robes, holding an upraised sword in his right hand and an orb and sceptre in his left, standing before a heraldic shield. At the top of the field, the Tetragrammaton (יהוה) is displayed within a radiant sunburst, emphasising the divine sanction of the monarch's rule. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal titulary legend running continuously in the outer legend band. The lettering of the circular legend reads in part from the bottom upward on the left side, reflecting the large hammered flan format typical of early Swedish riksdaler coinage.

Beschrijving keerzijde The central field displays the large quartered royal arms of Sweden surmounted by a royal crown, comprising the three crowns of Sweden and the lion of the Folkung dynasty in the principal quarters. The central shield is surrounded by an elaborate collar of smaller escutcheons bearing the heraldic devices of the various territories of the Swedish realm, arranged in a continuous ring. Two supporters — heraldic animals — flank the base of the shield. The date is split to either side at the top of the coin within the legend band. The overall design is typical of the grand heraldic style employed on large-denomination Swedish silver coins of the early seventeenth century.
