This issue spans the revolutionary decade: production began the year the Islamic Republic was proclaimed and ran through the final phase of the Iran-Iraq War, a conflict that placed enormous strain on Iran's economy and drove inflation high enough that small-denomination coinage became increasingly meaningless in daily transactions.
