In 1865, Tunisia was navigating the final years before its catastrophic state bankruptcy of 1869, and the Husainid beys were under mounting pressure from both Ottoman suzerainty and European creditor nations. This pattern piece appears to reflect an unresolved protocol dispute: the omission of the Bey name — standard on issued coinage — suggests the dies were prepared before official titulature was confirmed, or that the piece served as a submission for approval that never advanced.
KM#Pn7 is among a small cluster of Tunisian copper patterns from this period that exist in very limited numbers, most traceable to European collection dispersals of the late 19th century.
