| Obverse description | The Third Reich Reichsadler (imperial eagle) with wings spread wide is depicted in the upper half of the field, perched atop a wreath encircling a swastika. The eagle faces to the right with detailed feather engraving across its wings and breast. The curved legend in Gothic (Fraktur) script reads 'DEUTSCHES REICH' along the lower periphery, flanking the central device, with the date '1937' continuing to the right. |

In 1937, the Reichsmünzamt explored a brass composition for the 2 Reichspfennig, which had been struck in bronze since 1936. The pattern was never adopted — production continued in bronze through the war years. Brass was being increasingly reserved for military and industrial applications, which may explain why the substitution was tested but ultimately shelved at this particular moment.
