Reichskreditkassenscheine were occupation currency, issued not by the Reichsbank but by a separate Wehrmacht-adjacent institution created specifically to extract value from occupied territories without formally integrating them into the German monetary system. The 2 Reichsmark denomination circulated across a staggering range of occupied countries — France, Belgium, Norway, Greece, and others — wherever German forces operated between 1940 and 1945.
Over twelve million of this denomination were printed, yet surviving examples in clean condition are less common than the numbers suggest. Heavy field use and deliberate destruction after liberation thinned the pool considerably.
