2 Reales Type III Counterstamp

Beschrijving voorzijde	The obverse bears the Costa Rican Type III counterstamp applied to the host coin's reverse field, consisting of a draped female effigy in left profile, her hair arranged in an upswept chignon, set within a dotted oval cartouche. The legend COSTA RICA arcs above the effigy within the stamp, while the denomination 2 R appears below. The counterstamp is struck over the original Spanish colonial milled coinage, with the underlying design of the host coin visible in the surrounding field.

Beschrijving keerzijde	The reverse of the host coin displays the Spanish royal arms — a quartered shield bearing the castles of Castile and the lions of León, surmounted by a royal crown — flanked by the mintmark R to the left and the assayer's initial and denomination II to the right. A partial circumferential legend, characteristic of 18th-century Spanish colonial milled coinage struck at the Seville mint, runs around the periphery. The Costa Rican counterstamp on this face bears a ceiba tree with the legend HABILITADA POR EL GOB. arcing around it within an oval cartouche, validating the host coin for circulation in Costa Rica.
