GRATIA . with the date 1797 in the field. Applied over the host design is the Type I Costa Rican countermark: a radiant six-pointed star punched within a small incuse circle of approximately 7 mm diameter. A round hole, pierced at a later date, is present near the lower center of the coin, partially overlapping the host design. |

The design is presented in the characteristic machined style of late 18th-century Lima coinage.
