Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of President Rafael Carrera facing left, rendered in a neoclassical medallic style by engraver Johann-Baptist Frener, whose signature 'FRENER F.' appears at the base of the neck truncation. The effigy is set within a plain field enclosed by a beaded inner border and a reeded outer rim. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading 'RAFAEL CARRERA PTE DE LA RA.
