The Banco del Río de La Plata was an Argentine private bank operating under a provincial charter during the turbulent post-Caseros period, when Buenos Aires province was still negotiating the terms of its reintegration into the Argentine Confederation. Private bank notes denominated in "Reales Plata Boliviana" reflect the practical reality of the 1860s River Plate economy: Bolivian silver coinage circulated widely in the interior, and denominating paper in those units was a commercial necessity rather than a political statement.

PS#1833 is among the scarcer listings in the South American private issues section of Pick's Specialized catalog — survival rates for Argentine provincial bank paper from this decade are poor, partly due to the major monetary reorganization that followed the 1890 Baring Crisis forcing retrospective destruction of earlier issues.
