Obverse description Central field displays the quartered Royal Arms of Castile and León, featuring alternating castles (for Castile) and rampant lions (for León), surmounted by a royal crown with fleur-de-lis finials. The mintmark 'P' for Potosí appears to the left of the shield, with the assayer's initial visible in the field. The entire device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the partial Latin legend PHILIPPVS D G HISPANIARUM running along the outer margin, partially visible due to the irregular cob flan.
