Obverse description The Guatemalan coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quetzal bird perched atop an open scroll inscribed with the independence date, flanked by crossed rifles and swords behind a wreath of laurel and olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The fineness mark '0,835' appears in the lower left field and the date '1893' in the lower right, with the word 'ESSAI' incused along the bottom rim between them. The legend 'LIBERTAD 15 DE SETIEMBRE DE 1821' is inscribed on the central scroll. The design is rendered in high relief within a reeded border, reflecting the refined engraving style of the Paris Mint workshops.
