Obverse description Central device depicting a bow with a nocked arrow pointing upward, flanked by symmetrical foliate and scroll ornaments filling the field. The inscription SUD appears in the lower portion of the design, set within the curvilinear ornamentation, serving as an abbreviation for 'Sud' (South), denoting the insurgent southern forces under Morelos. The entire design is enclosed by a toothed or milled border running along the full circumference of the coin. The execution reflects the primitive cast technique characteristic of Oaxacan insurgent coinage of the Mexican War of Independence.
