| Reverse description | Central field bearing the denomination numeral '2' above the reales mark 'R' and the date '1812' arranged vertically, all enclosed within an elaborate frame of scrollwork and foliate ornaments. Flanking the central cartouche on either side are small architectural or tower-like devices, consistent with design elements found on other Oaxacan insurgent issues. The decorative surround of curvilinear scrolls occupies the entire field, and the design is bounded by a toothed border matching that of the obverse. The overall style is characteristic of the rudimentary cast silver coinage produced by the insurgent administration of Oaxaca during the Mexican War of Independence. |
