Obverse description Central crowned quartered shield of Spain bearing castles of Castile and lions of León, flanked to the left by the mint mark 'S' (Segovia) and assayer initial 'F', and to the right by the denomination mark 'II R'. The circular legend reads LUDOVICUS I D G, with ornamental stars separating the legend elements. The design is executed in the milled macuquina style characteristic of early eighteenth-century Spanish coinage.

Reverse description A bold cross with quatrefoil terminations divides the field into four quarters, each containing alternating castles of Castile and lions of León within a decorative lobed inner border. The surrounding circular legend reads HISPANIARUM REX with the date 1724 at the top, and ornamental star stops separating the words. The composition follows the standard type of early Bourbon milled coinage struck at the Segovia mint.
