2 Reales - Fernando VII Constitution

Guatemala's 1812 constitutional coinage was struck in direct response to the Constitution of Cádiz, promulgated in March of that year by the Spanish Cortes governing in Fernando VII's absence — he was still a prisoner at Valençay under Napoleon. The Guatemala mint, one of the few functioning royal mints in the Americas not yet disrupted by independence movements, was among the first to produce coins acknowledging the new constitutional order.

The Fonrobert reference places this piece in his landmark 1879 sale catalog of Spanish colonial coinage, which remains a standard attribution source for Central American issues of this transitional period.
