Obverse description The obverse displays the Philippine countermark applied over the host coin's original design, depicting a standing armored female figure of Liberty facing forward, holding a staff or lance in her right hand and resting her left hand upon a large oval shield bearing the crowned royal cipher 'F.7.o' (Ferdinand VII) surmounted by a crown. The countermark is struck in an oval indent dominating the central field. A toothed or beaded border frames the circumference, with the circular legend reading 'FIRME Y FELIZ POR LA UNION' and 'LIBERTAD' distributed around the periphery.
