The overall design follows the classic Spanish cross-and-quarters type introduced for milled coinage. The date 1721 appears prominently at the top of the coin, above the central motif, while the encircling Latin legend +HISPANIARUM+REX+ (King of the Spains) runs around the periphery, all bounded by a milled border of fine dentils. |
