| Obverse description | Crowned quartered shield of the Spanish Royal Arms in the hammered cob style, displaying the castles of Castile and lions of León in alternating quarters, with a central pomegranate at the base. The irregularly shaped host flan, typical of macuquina (cob) coinage, is struck with a beaded border partially visible around the periphery. The die impression is characteristically off-center and uneven, consistent with the hand-struck production method of colonial South American mints. A hole is present at the lower left of the flan, a common feature encountered on circulated cob coinage of this period. |
