Reverse description A large crowned royal monogram, consisting of an interlaced 'F' (for Felipe/Philippus IV) surmounted by an ornate royal crown, applied as a countermark punch by the Guatemala assay office in 1663 to validate the host cob coin for continued circulation. The countermark occupies the majority of the visible field on this side of the irregular flan and is boldly struck in high relief relative to the worn host coin surface. A beaded border is partially discernible around the edge of the flan. The same hole noted on the obverse pierces the upper left area of this face.
