| Reverse description | Reverse bearing the applied countermark of the Captaincy General of Guatemala, struck in 1663 by order of Felipe IV, consisting of a crowned F-IIII royal monogram — the interlaced letters F and the Roman numeral IIII surmounted by an open royal crown. The countermark is boldly impressed onto the cross side of the host cob, the underlying cross potent with lions and castles in the quadrants of the host coin remaining partially visible beneath. The flan is irregular with rough edges characteristic of hammered cob coinage, and shows a drilled hole at the lower-right margin. |
