Reverse description Quartered coat of arms of the Kingdom of Majorca set within a lozenge-shaped shield, displaying the characteristic pale-striped arms of Aragon alongside the castle device, all within a beaded inner circle. The shield occupies the entire central field in typical hammered style with irregular strike. The surrounding Latin legend + MALORICARVM · CATOLICVS encircles the shield, interrupted by the shield's corners, as is characteristic of Majorcan hammered coinage of the early seventeenth century.

Additional information

Felipe III never visited Majorca, but the island's mint operated under royal license throughout his reign, striking coinage that circulated heavily across the western Mediterranean trading network. The Majorcan 2 Reales from this period are notoriously inconsistently struck — a product of the island's small mint infrastructure rather than any deliberate policy — and full, legible examples are genuinely difficult to locate.
