正面描述 Crowned and draped bust of Felipe II facing left, wearing an ornate crown and armored or mantled shoulders, set within a plain inner circle. The effigy is rendered in the late medieval hammered style characteristic of Aragonese coinage. A circular Latin legend runs along the periphery, partially visible due to the irregular flan: FILIPVS REX ARAGONVM. Small decorative stops separate portions of the legend.

附加信息

Felipe II never visited Majorca, but the island's mint operated under direct royal authorization throughout his reign, producing silver coinage that circulated alongside peninsular issues without being fully interchangeable with them. The placement of the value denomination on the reverse — rather than integrated into the obverse field as was common in Castilian practice — reflects the persistent regional minting conventions that the Crown of Aragon territories maintained well into the Habsburg period, despite repeated centralizing pressures from Madrid.

Cal#498 is among the scarcer Majorcan silver types of the period. The Palma mint's output was never large, and surviving pieces frequently show die rust from the island's humidity.
