Reverse description Central design features a bold Jerusalem cross with flared terminals, dividing the field into four quadrants. The upper-left and lower-right quadrants contain a turreted castle (Castile), while the upper-right and lower-left quadrants display a rampant lion (León), all set within a polylobe or quatrefoil border of wavy outline. The surrounding legend in Latin is partially visible along the rim, interrupted by the irregular hammered flan edge. The overall strike is typical of the macuquina (cob) coinage produced at the Mexico City Mint during the reign of Philip II.
