Obverse description The obverse of the host coin features a crowned head facing left, the portrait rendered in the colonial Spanish American style with a mural or turreted crown visible above. The circumferential legend LIBERTAD AMERICANA arcs around the periphery, with the date ·1819· appearing in the lower exergual area. Prominently applied over the central field is a bold incuse countermark, appearing as an ornate cipher or monogram of Republican character, deeply impressed into the silver flan. The entire design is framed by a milled border of fine radial reeding.
