Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Charles III facing right, rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and drapery. The effigy displays the king in armored dress with decorative collar, characteristic of the portrait style introduced for the bust coinage of Spanish colonial mints. The circular legend CAROL III D G HISP ET IND REX is inscribed around the periphery, with the date 1770 appearing in the lower exergual area. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border, itself surrounded by a prominent milled or toothed outer rim. The obverse die is that of a trial or pattern striking, consistent with the obverse-only nature of this piece.
