| Reverse description | The reverse bears a crudely rendered but legible inscription in three lines across the central field reading VALE / DOS REA / LES, indicating the denomination of two reales. A circular legend around the periphery reads ESTADO DE CARTAGENA, identifying the issuing authority, with the date 1813 appearing in the lower portion of the field. The lettering is deeply struck in an irregular, hand-engraved style consistent with the emergency coinage produced during the siege and independence struggle of Cartagena. A beaded border frames the entire design. |

| Additional information |
Cartagena declared absolute independence from Spain on November 11, 1811 — nearly eight months before the United Provinces of New Granada did — making it one of the earliest self-governing entities in South America to issue its own coinage. These copper pieces were struck under siege conditions; by 1815, Spanish General Pablo Morillo's blockade had starved the city into surrender after 106 days, and the republican monetary experiment was finished.
