| Reverse description | Central device comprises the crowned Royal Arms of Spain, quartered with castles and lions and bearing an escutcheon of the House of Bourbon at its center, the whole surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The shield is flanked on either side by the Pillars of Hercules, each pillar wound with a ribbon scroll, symbolizing the Strait of Gibraltar and the New World. The circular legend • HISPAN • ET IND • REX • runs around the upper periphery, while the mint mark G (or NG), denomination 2R, and assayer initial P appear distributed in the field. A milled border frames the entire reverse. |
