| Obverse description | Central device consists of the quartered Royal Arms of Spain surmounted by a royal crown, displaying castles and lions in the quarters with a central escutcheon bearing the fleurs-de-lis of the Bourbon dynasty. The crowned shield is flanked to the left by the denomination mark 'R' and to the right by the numeral '2', denoting the face value of 2 Reales. A beaded border frames the coin, with the circular legend running along the periphery in Latin. The design is characteristic of the 'columnario' or 'pillar and globe' series transitional milled coinage struck under Carlos III at the Mexico City Mint. |
