Córdoba's provincial coinage of the late 1840s emerged from a political environment in which Argentine provinces retained independent monetary authority long after the rest of the region had begun consolidating. The 7-pointed sun variety is distinguished from the 8-pointed type by the die used for the solar rays — a difference minor enough to overlook, significant enough to separate the two catalog entries entirely.
The .750 fineness was below the standard demanded by Buenos Aires merchants, which contributed to these provincial pieces being actively discounted in inter-provincial trade.
