Obverse description Central device depicts the coat of arms of the Republic of New Granada, comprising a heraldic shield divided into three horizontal sections, the uppermost charged with a pomegranate fruit flanked by cornucopiae, the middle section bearing a liberty cap, and the lower section with a maritime scene. The shield is flanked on either side by symmetrical olive or laurel branches that meet at the base, forming an open wreath. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE LA NUEVA GRANADA runs along the upper periphery, while the date 1850 appears prominently in the lower field below the wreath.
