Obverse description The South African Coat of Arms is depicted centrally, featuring a secretary bird with outstretched wings above a shield supported by two human figures, with a motto scroll at the base bearing the legend !KE E: /XARRA //KE in the Khoisan language of the /Xam people, and the designer's initials ALS incused below. The date 2010 is divided to either side of the central device. Surrounding the arms, the name of the country appears in all eleven official languages arranged radially around the field: Afrika Dzonga, Suid-Afrika, Ningizimu Afrika, Aforika Borwa, Afurika Tshipembe, Afrika Borwa, iSewula Afrika, South Africa, uMzantsi Afrika, and iNingizimu Afrika, with the legends oriented both vertically and diagonally to frame the composition.
