Obverse description The South African Coat of Arms is depicted centrally in the field, featuring the secretary bird with spread wings above a shield, supported by two San figures, with an elephant tusk motif and a spear and knobkierie. The date 2009 is divided on either side of the arms. Surrounding the central device, the name of the country appears in all eleven official languages arranged around the periphery, reading: Afrika Dzonga, Suid-Afrika, Ningizimu Afrika, Aforika Borwa, Afurika Tshipembe, Afrika Borwa, iSewula Afrika, South Africa, uMzantsi Afrika, and iNingizimu Afrika. The national motto in the Khoisan /Xam language, '!KE E: /XARRA //KE', appears in the lower exergue.
