Obverse description The post-1994 South African national coat of arms is centrally depicted in the field, featuring the secretary bird with outstretched wings above a shield, supported by a scroll bearing the national motto '!KE E: /XARRA //KE' in the Khoisan language of the /Xam people. The date '2002' is divided to either side of the emblem, with '20' at left and '02' at right. Surrounding the central device, the name of the country appears in all ten official languages arranged radially around the periphery of the coin: 'Ningizimu Afrika', 'Afrika Borwa', 'Afrika Tshipembe', 'Afrika Borwa', 'iSewula Afrika', 'iNingizimu Afrika', 'uMzantsi Afrika', 'Suid-Afrika', 'Afrika Dzonga', and 'South Africa'. The engraver's initials 'ALS' appear within the design.
