| 表面の説明 | The South African coat of arms is depicted centrally, featuring a secretary bird with outstretched wings above a shield bearing two Khoisan figures, flanked by a spear and knobkierie, with a protea flower wreath below. The legend SOUTH AFRICA arcs along the upper periphery, while the date 2012 appears in the lower field. The engraver's initials ALS are inscribed to the lower left, and the Khoisan motto !KE E: /XARRA //KE appears on a ribbon below the shield. The design is struck to proof quality against a deeply mirrored field. |

The Khoisan Heritage series, launched by the South African Mint in the early 2010s, drew on rock art traditions of the San people — among the oldest continuous artistic cultures on earth, with some southern African rock art sites dated to over 27,000 years ago. The series was a deliberate departure from the Krugerrand's bullion-market dominance, positioning these coins toward collector channels rather than commodity trading.
The .9999 fineness distinguishes it from the standard Krugerrand, which runs at .9167.
