Issued as part of South Africa's ongoing Constitutional Values circulation series, this coin commemorates Section 15 of the 1996 Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion, belief, and opinion — a provision that carried particular weight in a country where the apartheid state had long weaponized religious institutions, most notably the Dutch Reformed Church, to provide theological justification for racial segregation.
