The numeral and crown are framed by a symmetrical wreath of olive branches, tied at the base with a floral spray. Arabic denomination and date legend appear within the wreath, with the English legend 'TWO PIASTRES' inscribed along the lower rim. Additional Arabic denomination legends flank the wreath on either side. The whole design is contained within a beaded border.

Additional information

Libya's 1952 coinage series was the first issued under Idris I following independence from British and French administration in December 1951 — making these among the earliest coins of the modern Libyan state. The series was produced at the Royal Mint in London, a practical arrangement given that Libya had no domestic minting infrastructure whatsoever at the time of independence.

The 1952 date covers the entire emission; no subsequent dates were struck for this denomination before the series was superseded.
