| Obverse description | The obverse is entirely typographic in design, bearing no effigy or central device. The field is dominated by bilingual inscriptions arranged in horizontal registers: the French partial legend 'ETAT' appears at the top, followed by the Arabic date '١٩٢٦' and the Arabic legend 'دولة سورية' (State of Syria) in the centre, with the Gregorian date '1926' and the French continuation 'DE SYRIE' in the lower field. The entire composition is framed by an elaborate arabesque border of interlaced foliate and geometric scrollwork rendered in the Art Deco idiom, characteristic of the engraving style of Henri-Auguste Patey. |
