The 1983 date places this issue at a decisive rupture in Sudanese monetary history. That year, President Nimeiry imposed his September Laws, instituting sharia across Sudan and, critically, prohibiting interest — a move that forced the restructuring of the entire banking system under Islamic finance principles. The Bank of Sudan was reorganized accordingly, and coinage of this period reflects transitional institutional identity before the subsequent issues dropped Arabic-only legends.
