| Additional information |
Sandringham House entered the Royal Family's hands in 1862, purchased specifically for the Prince of Wales — the future Edward VII — as a private country estate. The 150th anniversary being commemorated here counts from 1870, the year Edward undertook a significant rebuilding of the original structure after finding it inadequate. Jersey's issuing of this piece reflects the Channel Islands' longstanding tradition of producing commemorative coinage tied to the British Crown rather than to any distinctly local history.
