| Reverse description | Central design features a bold forward-facing portrait of Field Marshal Lord Kitchener pointing directly at the viewer, evoking the iconic World War I recruitment poster. The image is executed in high relief characteristic of the piedfort issue, with the legend THE FIRST WORLD WAR 1914-1918 arcing around the upper field. The quoted phrase YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU appears within the design, with the issue date 2014 placed below the central motif. The engraver's initials JB for John Bergdahl are present in the lower field. |

| Additional information |
The 2014 WWI centenary program was one of the Royal Mint's more ambitious commemorative series, spanning four years to mirror the conflict itself. Piedfort strikes — double-thickness blanks struck on specially prepared planchets — have been a Royal Mint specialty since they revived the format in 1982, drawing on a medieval French tradition used to produce presentation-quality proofs for assay purposes.
At twice the thickness of the standard silver issue, the extra depth rewards the design in ways the regular flan cannot.
