Obverse description The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, occupies the central field as a right-facing laureate bust with curled hair and a diadem, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished background. The engraver's initials 'IRB' appear incuse below the truncation of the neck. The legend 'ELIZABETH·II·D·G·REG·FID·DEF' arcs around the upper periphery, separated from the central device by a finely executed inner beaded border. The denomination 'TWO POUNDS' is inscribed along the lower arc of the outer legend, with intervening raised dots as dividers. The entire design is framed by a broad milled rim, characteristic of the Royal Mint's proof coinage.
