The Isle of Man has issued commemorative bimetallic pounds at a pace that outstrips most collectors' patience, but this piece occupies an unusual corner of that output. The attribution to "Margaret Kelvin" in connection with women's suffrage is almost certainly a conflation — the name Kelvin is associated with the physicist William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, not any documented suffrage figure. No Margaret Kelvin appears in established suffrage historiography. The Manx Parliament, Tynwald, granted women the right to vote in 1881, making the Isle of Man the first territory in the world to do so at a national level — a genuinely significant fact this coin's muddled attribution does nothing to illuminate.
