Gibraltar's commemorative output has long leaned on British naval history as a matter of geographic necessity — the Rock sits at the mouth of the Mediterranean, and the 1805 battle was fought roughly 30 miles to the northwest off Cape Trafalgar. Nelson's body was returned to Gibraltar aboard HMS Victory before being shipped to England preserved in a cask of brandy and spirits of wine, a detail the colony has never been shy about claiming as its own piece of the story.
