Additional information

The Who were the second band honored in the Royal Mint's ongoing Music Legends series, following Queen in 2020. The series was conceived partly as a corrective — British rock's commercial and cultural dominance of the twentieth century had gone largely unacknowledged by official coinage for decades.

Pete Townshend famously destroyed his first guitar on stage at the Railway Hotel in Harrow in 1964, reportedly by accident.
