| 裏面の説明 | Central field depicts Hercules wrestling the Cretan Bull, shown in dynamic low relief with the muscular hero grappling the bull from behind, forcing the beast downward. The inscription THE CRETAN BULL appears in the upper field within the inner border. A Greek meander (key) ornamental band runs horizontally across the lower centre of the field, above the denomination numerals. The outer legend THE LABOURS OF HERCULES arcs around the upper periphery, while 2 POUNDS is inscribed in the lower outer ring, all separated by a beaded border between the bimetallic centre and outer ring. |

Part of Gibraltar's long-running series depicting the Twelve Labours of Hercules, this issue takes particular local resonance from the territory's foundational myth — the Pillars of Hercules that frame the strait were said to have been erected by the hero himself. The seventh labour, capturing the Cretan Bull (later associated with the parentage of the Minotaur), connects the series to a Minoan-era narrative thread running through Greek mythology that predates the Olympic pantheon's consolidation.
Gibraltar has issued circulating bimetallic £2 pieces in this format since the 1990s, with the Labours subseries among its more sustained commemorative commitments.
