| 背面描述 | Central cameo portrait of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton facing right, superimposed over a depiction of the ice-bound three-masted sailing vessel Endurance trapped in pack ice. The denomination TWO POUNDS appears below, flanked by the explorer's birth year 1874 to the left and death year 1922 to the right. The legends SIR ERNEST HENRY SHACKLETON and ENDURANCE arc around the upper portion of the design. The composition commemorates Shackleton's legendary Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1914–1917. |

Shackleton's connection to the Falkland Islands is direct and unglamorous: Stanley was the last port of call before the Endurance departed for Antarctica in 1914, and it was to South Georgia — administered alongside the Falklands — that he famously returned after the ship's loss, having crossed 800 miles of the Drake Passage in an open boat. He died at South Georgia in 1922 and is buried there. The 1999 issue marks the 125th anniversary of his birth.
